Melissa’s Thoughts

Lauralee’s Ideas
With high school students, Lauralee starts with small gestures. To gain student trust, she connects on various levels and aims to reach students as young adults. For instance, through literature, media, and community, she connects with students. Additionally, she reaches out to others in the school to connect with every student.
Building authentic relationships with secondary students is a cornerstone of strong classroom management. With intentional and honest interactions, you will have a strong classroom community.

So after I being fired up by the Model Schools Conference, I planned for the new school year with a focus primarily on building relationships first. My whole first week was devoted to getting to know my students, and I intentionally set up systems to continuously build those relationships throughout the school year.
